prognosticator of the Michigan High School Bowling World, The Bowl Swami! Watch ye these teams to make the 2009 State Finals in the Boys Field: UPDATES LISTED IN RED! BOYS DIVISION I Ann Arbor Huron – Coach Oleksinski gives a nod to a possible approach. Berkley – Coach Arney reports that Wagner’s senior year finds others stepping up their game to make this year a trip to The Big Dance! Brighton – Was in last year…Koss is back…but…no Bright report this year! Clarkston – Having bowled 2008’s State Champs dead even last year (twice) in conference play, coach George feels his veteran team of Anderson, Smith, Zuker, Stapleton and Cooper, and Keck should be able to overcome the “Wall” and visit The Big Showdown this year! Crestwood - In a rebuilding mode this year, Coach Mitchell has high hopes for senior Juszczyk to help build the team faster in their attempt to Crest at the Regionals and jump into The Big Party! DeLaSalle – Won it two years ago – Returning coach McKay reports return of grizzled veterans DiLaura, Penxa and Goolsby will be aided by two highly qualified Junior Varsity veterans – look for a return visit! East Detroit – Have been there for the last two years and coach Reeber reports that their veteran rebuilding team is being aided by newcomers Futach and Thompson to assure another visit to the Final Party! Eisenhower – Coach Pollak has some high hopes for his veteran team returning three starters and adding Howell and Turri to boost Pollak (All Stater) should be the nucleus for a senior visit to The Big Palooza! Ford II (Utica) – At Finals last two years, but lost some veterans – no Sol’m’n report! Grand Rapids Union – Coach Wolbrink has four returning starters hopes to continue his Final Ways…but go even further! Hartland – New coach Heck and others are confident that top gun Santo will be joined by a new force this year impelling the group toward The Big Bash! Look out for the Eagles! Holly – Coach Westfall reports that veterans Charlick, Klingler, Rauh, Westfall, Raczkowski, Yarbough and Theil will be aided by Hopkins and Beelby – their depth could lead to their first visitation to The Big Dance! Howell – Returning veterans Smith, Rice and Drew will be aided by veteran JV’ers Nedzlek and Wilson as coach Collopy looks for these Howellers to make Match Play after last year’s faltering in The Big Dance! Hudsonville – Second in qualifying at State Finals last year – narrow loss in first Match Play – Coach Bentley promises a better team returning five top notch veterans including the Bouwman brothers and Hendricks. Kennedy (Taylor) - Coach Sarandrea reports Kennedy boy's team had a set back with senior Kyle Rapley having surgery on left foot. Expected return of mid January. Picked up some great new prospects and if team gels, may have a contender. This hairless coach (now re-grown) has a way of re-growing teams...look out! Lakeland (White Lake) – Last year’s experience may help to spread a White out on other teams but…no report! Lakeview (Battle Creek) – Been to the Big Dance last two years…but moves up in class...and no Battle report sent! Lake Orion – With Bondon, Suma, Ramaekers and Stephen coming back, coach Crowther feels they should be very competitive...and they were a Bowl Swami pick last year...so look out! L'Anse Creuse North – Varsity coach Ybarra and new coordinator Thomas report that with four veterans returning and a 211 average JV (from the JV Championship Team) stepping up, this may be the year for them to creuse to the Finals! Mona Shores (Muskegon) – In last year…but no Mona-ing and no report! Mott (Warren) – Coach Kovach reports veterans Slosek, Cooper, Kay, Sintkowski, and Laux will be joined by newcomer McGinnis (one to watch) as they are hungry for a return to The Big One! Oxford – Moving to a new conference may be the catalyst for this team as coach Lafnear reports that veterans Magyar, Burgess and Lafnear will be joined by three newcomers from the JV Championship team of last year…look for them to ox their way in this year! Port Huron – Were there last year…but must have left Port as no report this year! Port Huron Northern – Champs two years ago…Runner-up last year but headed North as…no report! Portage Central – Made it last year…but no report!
Rockford - Former coach Doornbos reports that
new coach Bellgraph (former Godwin Heights for six years) may be able to lift
the Rams to The Big Dance with Dennis, Van Drunen, Schmock, Stites and Hall
making them solid! It is believed they will Ram their way into The Big Party! Saline – With a crew of veterans polishing their skills early, and a new freshman eager to learn, coach McMullen feels they will power their way this year! South Lyon – Led all teams in qualifying at Finals last year – need to overcome fizzle in match play – some transfers to new school may hurt their cause – no report! Stevenson – Made it to semi finals last year – coach Stockton says six returning starters should be hungry for it all this year! Taylor Truman – Danced last year…but Tru-ly no report! Utica – Coach Hallam looks to shock the MAC Red with a more powerful team this year…they’ll take no prisoners and move on to The Big War! Walled Lake Central – Last year’s State Champs will have to do it without Christensen – no report! Woodhaven – Lost significant force from last year…and no Wood to report!
BOYS DIVISION II Annapolis (Dearborn Heights) Champs two years ago and visitation last year will be impetus for returning pin smashers Sanker, Schmitt, Bradley, Robertson and Estermyer and two other veterans as reported by coach Kvamme (the infamous choker). Armada – Possible repeat…but may not have a strong Armada this year as no report! Byron Center – Made the trip last two years…but went to the Center of the Earth and sent no report! Center Line – With their first year of competition under their belts, coach Miller feels the loss of only one veteran and the team’s experience could lead them to a visit! Charlotte – Was back last year…but this Spider weaved no web and sent no report for this year! Clio – Partied last year…but no report! Divine Child – Second in qualifying and Runner-up last year…coach change and not so Divine as no report was sent this year! Durand - With 7 starters returning from last year, and the addition of some new talent, coach Benson looks for this to spark them on to The Big RooHaaaa! Fitzgerald – Having learned the ropes in their first year, coach Schultz anticipates a more powerful season with Mostyn and Bravo leading the way…will it be all the way? Freeland – Moving to Division 2 last year meant missing The Big Outing by 30 pins, but coach Behmlander (through his intermediary) feels the depth of his team, with Robishaw and Behmlander, plus their veteran experience over the past four years should result in another visit! Fremont – Leading qualifier at Finals last year sends no report! Fruitport – At the Dance last year…but it’s Fruit-less to ask for a report! Garber (Essexville) – Moved up last year and still made The Big Dance…no report this year…or was it Garb-led!? Ionia – Two years-in-a-row…but no report! Kingsford – Coach Sherby reports that with only two returning veterans, team is in rebuilding process – advanced learning curve could help! Lakeview (St. Clair Shores) – Celebrated last year…but now skating on the Lake (for a) View and too busy to send a report!? Lincoln (Warren) – Made it last year…but not a real “Honest Abe” as no report! Marshall – With four veterans returning, coach Hutchings looks for Regional Champs to flourish at Finals this year! Mason – There last year…who knows if they’re gonna lay a Brick…no report! Mt. Morris – Looking to better their Regional action over last year, this team is not only aiming to Three-Peat in the GAC, but coach Saunders feels their five returnees are powerful enough to make it this year! Northview (Grand Rapids) – Bounced in last year…but could View no report for this year! Owosso – Coach Ariss reports that all starters are returning and they look to better their second place Conference finish with a glimpse of The Big Party! Paw Paw – Coach Zolp (and Patterson) has five returning veterans eager to topple those pins – watch for them to make a move this year Pinconning – Picked as a winner last year by the Bowl Swami…some losses…but could “Pin” down no report this year! Richmond – Coach Essenmacher brings back Young, Calderone, Digon, Ureel, McCarty and Gillis with hopes that they will overcome and join the girls at The Big Dance this year! Swan Valley – Moving up in class, and the loss of three key seniors, may find team rebuilding and learning…reports coach Henze. Tawas Area – While jumping to Division Two this year, coach Miller looks to MacMurray and Call to lift this team in the Big Dance direction.
BOYS DIVISION III All Saints (Bay City) – Last year’s champs lose only one starter – looking at top again – but not one Saint would send report! Birch Run – Coach McKinnon feels that this team can go even further this year with Brooks and others on the team averaging 200's or better...I believe they may be on the RUN toward The Big Whopper! Cabrini (Allen Park) – First trip last year…no report and I’m telling St. Francis! Flat Rock – First trip last year finds this team improving their skills in a more competitive conference (Mega Red) but coach Painter feels that his crew of 12 led by Leroux, Lazarz, Voran and Racisz should be up to the job…iffen the ten pin is friendly! Gabriel Richard (Riverview) Made their first trip last year…but no one to blow a horn this year…as no report! Hemlock – Coach Krueger looks to advance his team further this year, as the five returning starters increase their poisoning skills! Ithaca - Having lost two of their starters from last year's Regional Champions, coach Schneider has seen a great deal of improvement and looks to seniors Zamarron and Schneider (Josh) to lead the team back for the fifth time in six years. Iron Mountain – Danced last year…but too busy climbing Mountains to send a report! Jackson Vandercook Lake – Coach Reichard feels this veteran team will once again return to The Big Party and maybe they will party all the way this year! Jonesville – While they were there last year, an improvement in their Baker scores will lift them to Match Play and coach Molinaro feels these veterans are ready for the task! Lakeville (Otisville) – Made a showing last year…no report! Mason County Central – Tumbled in last year…no report! Napoleon – Third in qualifier last year…no report found inside Napoleon’s vest! Ravenna – A surprise last year with their first year of competition, coach Nutt feels their experience will aid them in a return this year and prod them further! Rogers City – Quarterfinals last year…but, by Roger, no report! Sandusky – Coach Shea reports three returning starters, Arnold, Miller and Paehlig, plus sixth man Ball. A talented freshman, Johnston will round out the starting lineup with the bench going deep. Look out for them to make another run this year and take home The Big Banana! St. Louis – Coach Post feels this veteran team (with five returning starters) will be back again – look for them to finish further than 8th this year!

GIRLS DIVISION I Anchor Bay – Champs two years ago misfired in Match Play…tossed out Anchor but no report! Anderson (Southgate) – Able last year…no report! Crestwood - Coach Mitchell reports that only three starters return...but Junior Cunningham may just inspire these girls to find a way to slip in! Davison – Leading qualifier last year has lost four veteran starters...but wait...coach Snyder (who sent his top bowler from last year to Lindenwood University's team) has added some Fresh pin power that sees his team averaging 855 currently...look out for them to power back in! East Detroit – Coach Reeber reports that veterans Futach and Novakoski may inspire the team to visit the Finals this year! Eisenhower – Returning four starters and adding a new southpaw, Craft, coach Pollak sees a possible trip to Finals. Grand Blanc – Danced last year…no report…so may draw a Blanc! Grand Ledge – Fell off the Ledge and missed Match Play last year…no report! Grandville – Loss of Warner may stop visit…no report! Hartland – Coach Heck sees the Screaming Eagles as a better team this year, even though top gun Brewer has drifted to college…watch ‘em…as they have the Hart! Holt – Been there the last two years, and coach Vessel looks for returnees Mollitor, Rogers, Kirby and Boisclair to be joined with some new blood to go even further this year, so Holt onto your horses and look out for the Rams! Holly - As per coach Walz: Having won the Flint Metro last year and returning Taylor, Blevins, Slay, Wilson, Rauh, and Walz, this team is adding another Walz to possibly Waltz into the Finals! Hudsonville – There last year…but no report for girls! Kearsley (Flint) – Coach Ploof has high hopes for this team as they move from Division 2 to Division 1 – they have been at The Big Dance the last two years, but returning veterans Hale, Weeks, Brilinski and Mann, joined by freshmen Ploof, Dawes, Hibbs, Smith, Cooper and Hollister will have their work cut out for them! Kennedy (Taylor) – Champs two years ago barely missed Match Play last year…and coach Sarandrea reports: The power house Kennedy girls team has 3 returning vets. Rebuilding is humbling yet rewarding. So far 3-0 in the Mega Conference. Regionals and States always jump up in experience, quality and competition! Will the hair-less coach pull it off? Kettering (Waterford) – Emotion packed visit last year…too teary eyed to send report this year! L’Anse Creuse North – New coach Ryan Mitter (PBA Card Holder) expects these girls, led by Rawski and Kreuger, with all other veterans back, to atone for missing it last year by one spot...look for this excited crowd to dash to The Big Dance! Lowell – Squeaked in two years-in-a-row…another one (?) …but Lo and behold…well…no report! Milford – Loss of two key seniors may slow them down – new coach…no report! Oxford – Coach Lafnear feels they not only can win the conference title in their first year with the Flint Metro, but the return of all their veterans (including Cartner and High) will be aided by newcomers Lafnear and Moses. Could this be the year? Port Huron – Semi finals last year…lost an All Stater…when challenged, they always say “Hur-on!”…but no report! Rockford – Former Head Coach Doornbos espouses coach Farrance's 47-9-2 record for last five years for primary reason that Van Drunen, Webber, Schmock and Pribble will lead the Ram-ettes back to The Big Palooza this year! South Lyon – Last year’s champs…transfers may hurt...no report! Stevenson (Sterling Heights) – Coach Stockton wants to keep a cloud of mystery over his perennial Big Dance visitors…we’ll see! Utica – Had the power last year to knock L’Anse Creuse North out of Finals…adding more fire power this year says coach Hallam…so look out…they’ll be back! Walled Lake Central – Determined not to lose a championship (by 13 pins) this season, coach Schatz feels Johnson, Castle, Millbauer and Abraham, to be joined by newcomer Hysell, should be able to do the job!
GIRLS DIVISION II Alma – Coach Shunk is looking to surprise and take his team back to The Big Palooza with Chase, Shunk and two other starters returning. Look out! Annapolis (Dearborn Heights) Having been there last year and before, coach Kvamme feels veterans Ciantar, Littleton, Sanborn and new comer Henry will be a force this year to push them further! Armada – Made it last year…no report! Caledonia – While Paolo Nutini and Dougie Maclean sing ye praises, the Celtic Ladies do ye better justice (link will be provided if ye ask)…ye send no report about last year’s visit…so how can ye be “the best friend” anyone’s ever had! Clarenceville – Two spares last year kept them out of Match Play…no report! Coldwater – Tecumseh took their throne away and tossed it into the water…they couldn’t find it…still looking…which means they were too busy to send a report! Coloma – Semi finals last year…must be in a C(ol)oma…no report! Durand - Some promising recruits, along with 3 returners, prompts coach Benson to report these girls will be tuff and competitive...look out! Fremont – They partied but were last in qualifier last year…no report! Ishpeming – Popped in last year…but T-Ish..T-Ish…no report! John Glenn (Bangor) – With 3 strong returners, and 3 very talented newcomers, coach Roznowski reports these girls are ready to, not only defend their conference title, but they will be setting their sights on The Big Dance, once again! Kingsford – While visiting Big Dance for last two years, coach Sherby reports that the Nation’s recession may have hit Kingsford this year as transfers hinder and replacements are few. Marshall – Looking to go further than last year’s visit, coach Hutchings reports that five varsity veterans will be aided by two JV Championship runner-up JV’ers! Mattawan - With the Snyder girls (Ashley and Jessica) and Miller (changing equipment), coach Snyder feels that this team may have the potential to party at The Big Dance! Owosso – First timer last year...maybe…but no report! Paw Paw – Coach Zolp (and Patterson) is adding a surprise freshman to five returning veterans – they were there two years ago and may paw their way back into it this year! Regina – Veteran team (many visits to Big Dance) and veteran coach Abele look to power their way further this year! Richmond – With Ashman, Wright, Essenmacher, Hasen and Tadrzynski returning this year, coach Essenmacher looks for this veteran team to make Match Play this year at The Big Dance! Rogers (Wyoming) – Last year’s tuff visitor sends no report! Saginaw Swan Valley – Moving up in class, last year’s Division 3 State Champs will be a force to reckon with, as coach Henze reports veterans Potts, Mitchell, Hayes and Duby return with many other veterans. South Christian (Grand Rapids) – Danced but couldn’t make Match Play last year…and not very Christian, as they send no report! Tawas Area – While they have been to The Big Dance the last two years, coach Miller reports they have moved up to Division Two this year! They are still looking to be competitive with the return of four starters from last year, including Heine and Osborne (Singles finalist last year). Look for them to be there! Tecumseh – Powerful champs from last year sends no report!? Ogemaw Heights – May be getting secret training – possible – no report!
GIRLS DIVISION III Bad Axe – This “Bad” team couldn’t get to Match Play last year…no report! Birch Run – With daughter Jenna in tow, coach Grandy sees a better result for the team this year! Ewen-Trout Creek – Always a favorite…but no report again! Flat Rock – While these girls visited last year for first time, the coach sent no report this year (we got one for the boys)! Grass Lake – Could return – no report as Grass is covered with snow! Hemlock – Couldn’t work the poison last year, as they qualified last…no report…maybe they swallowed it! Ithaca – Celebrated last year…however, no report! Kellogsville (Wyoming) – The Champs from two years ago narrowly missed Match Play last year, but coach Salzwedel states that this loaded team of returning veterans Cullin, Rocha, Tanis, Greenawalt and Gardner will be aided by new freshmen Puyrun and Lubbers. They look to burn up the competition once again! Memphis – Does Elvis really walk in their halls (link provided if asked)…there last year…no report (cause they’re busy walking?)! Napoleon – While this team danced last year, the coach may be on another Napoleonic War adventure…as no report! New Haven – Another visitor from last year who sends no report! Perry – With four returning starters and having finished 5th in States last year, Coach Grennell feels this team, with its dedication, will repeat again...hopefully go further! Rogers City - Perennial contender sends no report! Sandusky - Coach Williams has only lost one bowler from last year's quarter finalists and have added additional talent. They look to go much further this year at The Big Palooza! Indeed...they may be holding Pocket Aces and headed to take it all! St. Ignace – At the Palooza last year…but Ig-noring us with no report! St. Louis – Coach Woodcock sees a rebuilding effort for this year’s team, but some individuals may trickle in to The Big Celebration! St. Patrick (Portland) – These Irish girls danced last year…but with no Irish luck…and no report! Swan Valley – Having cooked Vandercook last year…last year’s champs send no report? Vandercook Lake (Jackson) – State Runner-ups two-years-in-a-row, coach Reichard feels this team, returning all starters, should waltz clear to the top this year at The Big Dance!
