MHSIBCA HALL OF FAME

2007 COACH HALL OF FAME

2008 HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES

Carl Doornbos, Rockford

Carl Doornbos, Head Coach and coordinator for Rockford High School, has guided the program for the last nine years. Carl coached the boys and girls teams for four years and has been the boys coach for the last five. His teams have achieved twelve conference championships and numerous trips to the state finals. He is proud of new achievements this year for the program. His girls finished in eighth place as a team, and a boy individual finished tenth. He also had a sophomore first team all state award winner. Carl has served on the MHSIBCA executive board since its inception, first as Secretary and presently as First Vice-President. He also serves on the rankings committee and the budget and audit committee. Carl has managed an MHSAA Division 1 Region Event for the past two years in the West Michigan Area and continues to be involved with the OK Red Conference in Grand Rapids.  A proud honoree of the Detroit Free Press Coach of the Year in 2005, he is also excited to have two members of his past teams from 2007 and 2008 sign letters of intent to continue their bowling careers with the new Davenport College program in Grand Rapids. Carl is thankful of the Rockford athletic department for its support from the beginning, and the Rockford parents and hard working athletes which have made the program what it is today.

Deborah Alexander, Flint Metro Bowling Conference

Deborah Alexander, Co-Commissioner of the Flint Metro Bowling Conference (60+ teams), has been involved with Michigan high school bowling for over 12 years. She has worked at Richfield Bowling Center in Flint in numerous positions, while assuming the duties of 2nd Vice President of MHSIBCA for the last two years. She has tirelessly promoted high school bowling in the Flint area, enlisting coaches and scheduling events and tryouts for eight high schools. Deborah acknowledges trips to the bowling center every Saturday, for her son’s bowling, as the real reason for her involvement. Yet, it is well known that others making that same trip do not measure up to the dedication that she has given to high school bowling. Deborah is thankful for being selected to the Hall of Fame and gives much credit for the award to her son, Robert, and her husband Bob. They will celebrate a 20th anniversary in June.

Randy Shank, Sunnybrook Lanes

Randy Shank, proprietor of Sunnybrook Golf, Bowl and Motel, hosted the all-inclusive MHSAA High School State Finals for its first three years (2004-06), setting the bar high for others who followed. He has continued to host a division of the State Finals since then. Randy is currently Treasurer of the South East Michigan Bowling Centers Association and is a board member of the State Bowling Centers Association of Michigan. He has sponsored two high school teams over the last nine years and hosts both the Macomb County and the Michigan Junior Varsity High School Championships. His commitment to high school bowling was influential in allowing him to host the USBC National Junior Gold and National Pepsi Tournament this July. Randy feels his support of high school bowling is small compared to the dedication shown by coaches, athletes, parents and the MHSAA. He feels honored to be a part of the group that made high school bowling in Michigan the largest and most successful in the country. Randy has been married 25 years to his supporting partner Cheryl and was blessed with two daughters, Stephanie and Sarah.
