2010 Fourth Annual High School Holiday Mixed Doubles Invitational
Held at Richfield Bowl on January 2nd, 2010.
The Davison High School Bowling program hosted the fourth annual Mixed
Doubles Holiday Tournament for High School Bowler's at Richfield Bowl on Saturday,
January 2nd. The
tournament attracted 87 doubles teams from around the state (20
different schools), with teams
from Davison, Kearsley, Grand Blanc, Carman Ainsworth, Bay City,
Flint Northern, Lapeer West, Lapeer East, Flint Powers,
Flushing, Sandusky, Flint Northwestern, Troy, Brighton, Hartland,
Oxford, Holly, Flint Southwestern and Swartz Creek
represented. The format consisted of 3 individual games per bowler and 2
Baker format games and then the field was cut to the top 44 teams. Then
the doubles teams bowled (4) more Baker games and the field was cut to
the top 16 teams. The doubles teams were seeded according to total actual pinfall. The high qualifiers
for the tournament were Drew Klinger and Kenzie Walz from Holly with
an actual total of 2191. Drew had the high individual actual series and
game of the tournament
with a 652 actual series. The 2nd highest seeded team was Mike Maygar &
Kelly Cartner from Oxford with a score of 2142. Kelly Cartner was tied
for the 2nd highest series of the tournament on the girls side with a
550 actual series. Once the seedings
were set, the format turned to a 2 game Baker set with actual pins
determining the winner.
The first round saw the 2,3,4, & 5 seeds all eliminated and the #1 seed of Klingler & Walz moved on. In the elite 8 the winners were the higher seeds except for the #13 seed of Lafnear/Rein from Oxford who made the final 4.
In the final 4 the #1 seed of Klingler/Walz defeated the #13 seed team of Lafnear/Rein by a final score of 332 to 322 and the other bracket had the #7 seed of Teuber/Kelly defeat the #6 seed of Doyle/Miekeljohn from Flushing by a score of 338 to 317.
The All Metro Conference Final was close the first game as the team of Teuber/Kelly from Swartz Creek won the first Baker game by a score of 214 to 199. In the final Baker game the Swartz Creek team pulled away and won with a final score of 194 to 145 for a final total of 408 to 344. The top 2 teams (4 bowlers) will receive a $100 scholarship.
Other teams that made the final 8 were Justin Teuber/Savannah Dougherty from Swartz Creek, Kelsey Brooks/Tyler Reid from Kearsley, Kitchen/Land from Waterford Mott and Dean Tobias/Kelsey Smith from Grand Blanc.
The tournament winners received a plaque to display at the High school and medals. The 2nd place finishers also received a plaque and medals as did the high individual scorers. The 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th & 8th place finishing teams also received medals. The final scores and standings are available by clicking the links below.
